Biography
Jim Landers is a native of Houston, Texas who served twenty-two years in the United States Air Force as a Firefighter and later as a Command-and-Control Specialist before retiring in 2014.
He joined the Department of Defense as a Federal Civilian Human Resources Specialist in 2015 before moving to Nueces County in 2025.
He has experience in Leadership, Management, Human Capital Development, Position Classification, Employee-Management-Relations, Onboarding, Disciplinary Actions, Performance Improvement, Appraisals and Reporting. As a strong advocate for continuing education, Jim earned degrees in Fire Science, Information Systems Technology, Emergency and Disaster Management, Human Services Counseling, a Master’s in Business Administration as well as an advanced degree in Education with a focus on adult learning.
Jim is married to his wife Anne of thirty-one years, has seven children, seven grandchildren and an oversized Bernese Mountain Dog named “Brutus”.
Description of Office
The Human Resources Department implements the rules and directives of Commissioners Court to provide human resource management services to the offices and departments of Nueces County. These human resource management services are focused on providing a forum to bring management's needs and desires together with labor's assets and ambitions. Through professional and effective processes, qualified applicants are recruited and selected to become valuable human resource assets. These employees are given career development opportunities through on-the-job experience, formal and informal training, on-going evaluation and feedback, and advancement opportunities within the Nueces County system.
