Registration for the 2026 Citizens’ Constable Academy Class is NOW OPEN
The Citizen’s Constable Academy is a FREE up to 12-week program designed to provide the public with a working knowledge of the Nueces County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office, local law enforcement and county government. Each session consists of weekly classes that meet in the Calderon Building (Auditorium). The instructions are comprehensive, engaging, and entertaining as well as informative.
The next class starts February 2026
We’ll meet each Tuesday from 6-8:00 pm. – Constable Oscar Mendoza allows 2 absences to still be able to graduate from the Academy. If you cannot attend most of the classes, please do not sign up as there are very limited spots.

- Civil Service- Pct.5
- Life of a Deputy- Pct.5
- S.R.T/S.W.A.T. Pct. 5
- JP Court/Bailiff- Pct.5
- Reserve- Pct.5
- Asset Forfeiture
- Neighborhood Watch
- Narcotics
- K9
- Shoot/Don't Shoot Exercises
- Crime Scene Practical
- Surrounding Law Enforcement Agencies
The slogan of the Citizens Constable Academy is, “Understanding through Education.” The goal is to educate the public about the Nueces County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office, and associated county offices and to increase the rapport between citizens and law enforcement.
We hope the Citizens Constable Academy graduates become more aware and better informed about how law enforcement operates and will encourage friends, coworkers and families to join the Nueces County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office in this rewarding program.
The qualifications to attend the Citizens Constable Academy are:
- I must be 18 years of age
- I must be a resident of Nueces County or work in Nueces County
- I Must pass a background check and not have been convicted of any felony crimes
At graduation, you will have an opportunity to join our amazing Citizen’s Constable Academy Alumni Association!
NOTE: This is NOT a peace officer/law enforcement academy, and upon completion, you will NOT become a peace officer.
